Former Berlin-based Variety mugg and longtime film critic for the paper, Ron Holloway, will be honored at this year’s Berlin Film Festival with a Golden Camera award. Sharing in the kudos will be Ron’s wife, actress Dorothea Moritz, who has served on the Berlinale selection committee for 19 years.
Besides Ron’s work on various trade sheets as a critic, he and Dorothea have been publishing a local English-language film mag called “Kino” for the past 30 years. Ron has regularly contributed material to Simesite and also penned an evocative piece on the old Hotel Suisse in Cannes for last year’s Variety Souvenir Album.
In 1994 Ron made a documentary called “Parajanov – a Requiem” about the late American director Sergei Parajanov, which will be screened at the award presentation skedded for Feb. 16 in Berlin’s Filmpalast.
We join Berlin’s director, Dieter Koslick, in congratulating Ron and Dorothea for their lifetime achievements as film critics, cinema lovers and faithful ex-muggs.
